I learned about death when I was 9 and my daddy, 35, died suddenly and unexpectedly. I went to the funeral home with my mom and grandpa and was hearing things like “you could choose this casket…..but I think you loved your husband a little more than this”. My first trip to a funeral home was manipulative and extremely expensive. Even though I couldn’t fully comprehend what was happening, I remember how it made me feel. I don’t want anyone to go through what my family experienced, if I can help it.
I’m a FD because I’m a caregiver. I believe that taking care of a loved one is a sacred responsibility. It’s the calling of my heart.
When I’m not at work I’m spending time with my wife and kids. Combined we enjoy our 8 kids and spoil our 3 grandchildren. I spend a lot of time rooting for my family while they’re playing softball and soccer. I am a crafter who loves to shop for craft supplies. Sometimes I even use the supplies that I collect. I’m currently making dolls, junk journals and collages.
I go to the ocean, as often as I can, to release the grief that I carry for the families that I serve.

Nikki lives with her partner, Marie, and 2 cats, Lupin and Katy. While they had a promising career as a future cat-lady (which hasn’t been fully ruled out yet), funeral service quickly took over once they realized what a good fit it would be for them. Jumping from being a nanny to 3 wonderful kids into taking care of families made perfect sense and has been one of the easiest transitions to make in their career adventure.
Nikki started with Tuell-McKee Funeral Home in March of 2022, and graduated from the Funeral Service Education program at Lake Washington Institute of Technology in 2023 after having spent several years learning about funeral service and getting ready to start college once again. She hopes her calm, guiding presence will help all her families through the funeral process.
